Why short films are so important

At Craghoppers, we love story-telling and it takes incredible skill to tell a memorable story in just a few minutes. Our lives are so busy, short form content is perfectly suited to be watched anywhere and at any time.

Each film submitted for the Discover Film Festival is a unique snapshot into someone else's life. A great short film can highlight what unites us and celebrate what makes us different. A great short film can make us cry one minute and laugh the next. A great short film can have a big impact and stay with us for a long time.

Many Craghoppers Film Prize winners have gone on to win even more accolades. One such film, "An Irish Goodbye" - a black comedy set in rural Northern Ireland, won in 2022. This film follows the reunion of estranged brothers Turlough (Seamus O'Hara) and Lorcan (James Martin) following the untimely death of their mother. This touching story, written and directed by Tom Berkley and Ross White, subsequently went on to win a BAFTA and OSCAR.

“The Craghoppers Film Prize is such an amazing thing to be available, to particularly emerging filmmakers […] to have the financial backing and support of a brand like Craghoppers is a wonderful thing and we’re so thankful for all their support.” - Tom Berkeley, Writer & Director - An Irish Goodbye
