Located in the Pacific Ocean, the volcanic Galapagos Islands consist of thirteen main islands and over 120 rocky islets. Surrounded by 198,000km2 of marine reserve, both land and sea are home to an incredible array of species, many of which are found nowhere else on Earth. We proudly support Galapagos Conservation Trust with funding, to carry out vital research.
They have bright blue feet and can dive down to 30 metres into the ocean to hunt prey.
They are mammals and they are pescatarians, eating fish, small squid and octopi.
They are the third smallest penguin in the world and can swim almost 20 times faster than a human.
They can weigh over 300kg and live up to 175 years. They are herbivores meaning they only eat grasses, flowers and cactus fruits.

Hi I’m a Marine Biologist, born and raised in Ecuador. Since being very little I have worked in the Galapagos Islands. One of my earliest memories was swimming with sharks and since then I have been enthralled with marine life.
Blue Carbon describes how carbon is stored from the atmosphere in the marine environment, as a way to mitigate climate change.
Reducing our emissions alone is not enough. We need to remove carbon from the atmosphere.
Carbon is taken up directly by vegetation in the ocean and also stored in vast quantities in animals such as whale sharks.
Protecting marine ecosystems and species living in our oceans is vital for our future.
Galapagos Conservation Trust (GCT) is the only UK registered charity to focus solely on the conservation of the Galapagos Islands, one of the most unique and ecologically important, but vulnerable, areas in the world.
