Duke of Edinburgh Hike – Loughrigg Fell

Looking for a new hike route? Why not give Loughrigg Fell a go? Our team joined the DofE gang on this walk and this is what they had to say.

We’d recommend an early start to be able park up in the minimal layby space available but the walk is absolutely worth it. We hiked the route in late August on what started as a mild day, a very exposed route with minimal coverage so not one to do in poor conditions.

The walk begins with following a steeping walk through farmland and woodland before being welcomed with what feels like never ending fields of bracken. Although a relatively short route there is sections that are only suitable for those who are sure footed.

Once we made it to the top of Loughrigg fell, we weren’t only greeted by the astonishing views of the Langdales but also storm clouds rolling in from the west.

We took as much time as we could taking in the beautiful panoramic views over the Southern Fells and Windermere before making our descent. There’s some rugged short cuts over rocky areas if you decide to go off trail, or you can take your time on the winding path that towards Todd Crag before turning back towards the start point.

An absolute must do hike for the astonishing views on what is a relatively short route.
