The Best Walks In The Lake District

With the weather changing, and the temperature starting to heat up, we’re finally coming into the season of long DRY walks throughout the country. When it comes to walking, hiking or scrambling, there is no place better in the UK than the stunning Lake District. Perfect for those wanting a short two hour walk around one of the beautiful lakes or the experienced scramblers, battling their way to the summit, the Lake District is second to none. We’ve selected some of our favourite walks, that are perfect for this Spring and Summer.

Helvelyn Via Striding Edge

Lake District - Helvelyn

Time: 4-5 hours

Start Point: Glenridding

One of the tougher routes up Helvellyn, this hike isn’t for the feint-hearted. Unlike the Thirlmere route, this walk is not a straightforward path and can take between 4 to 5 hours. This route is perfect for those wanting a bit of excitement as when you approach the summit the path includes copious amounts of scrambling. The rewards for this hike are the stunning views across the Lake District and upon completion you will realise that it was all worth it.

Buttermere Circuit

Buttermere

Time: 2 hours 20 minutes.

Starting Point: Buttermere Village

A slightly longer walk, this route is perfect for those wanting to challenge themselves and their family, whilst still enjoying splendid views of Buttermere lake. At 4.5 miles long, this route is relatively flat with an ascension of only 30 feet and perfect for taking the whole family or younger children! The terrain of this route is also extremely accessible, making a perfect option for those that also have limited mobility.

Tarns Hows Circular Walk

Tarn Hows - River

Time: 1 hour

Starting Point: Tarn Hows Car Park

Perfect for those looking for a light walk to start their morning or a simple walk for the dog, this light 3.3km route is the answer for you. With stunning views of Lakeland Fells, this light walk won’t wipe you out for the rest of the day, allowing you to carry out the rest of your plans for the day.

The Perfect Gear For Your Walks

With Summer around the corner, it’s time to ditch the heavy parkas and waterproof trousers for some lighter gear that will keep you cool and mobile for longer walks in higher temperatures.

Our range of Expolite jackets are perfect for those morning walks where there is a slight breeze but not too cool. Lightweight, these jackets will keep you warm, without sacrificing your mobility.
